Trick Or Treat!

Happy Halloween!
This year I told the kids I wanted them to get creative and come up with a costume from things we had at home. I explained how when I was little, my mom would sew me a costume or we would use stuff from around the house to come up with something for our costume.

It's just starting to get a little too spendy at $30-$40 bucks a costume x's 5 kids. Ouch! Luckily, we do have some hand-me-down costumes for the younger kids!

I gave the kids a few ideas of things I've been in the past and then we found a homemade costume website with ideas. Here's what they came up with...

ALAINA decided to wear her footie Pajamas and was a BABY.
(Super easy, warm, comfortable, and she loved it!)
KY, on the other hand, chose one off the website and put HIS HEAD IN A JAR.
(This costume was super cheap, but not super easy to make. I know, you might be thinking it just looks like a trench coat stuffed with newspaper and a jug on his head. (That's what I was thinking when I agreed to make it.) Ugh. After 12 long hours of cutting, sewing, engineering, gluing, itchy cardboard, stuffing, and tying.
Viola, It's DONE!
Because of this costume the words "I'm not doing Halloween next year" actually came out of my mouth. (More than once) At about hour #7 on this project I was about ready to throw in the towel and just run by the party store and grab something else for him, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. He had a lot of fun wearing it.

This costume was the hit of the night. People were stopping Ky everywhere we went to tell him how awesome it was. Some people even stopped him to take a picture with him. After trick or treating Ky said to me,"It felt like I was famous tonight with everyone wanting to be around me and people taking my picture :)
HAILEY grabbed something from our Halloween tubs. She was a WITCH. Grandma Ostler made this costume for our family about 3 Halloweens ago. I love having such a talented seamstress in the family to do these kind of projects for me.
This is Hailey pre make-up.
Hailey with her witchy makeup and 3 big, black, hairy moles.
KASE chose a BOXER costume from our Halloween tubs. Whoa! Look at those muscles.
Ya better watch out!
HUDSON was a dog. He wasn't to fond of wearing his costume until he discovered he got FREE CANDY because of it.
Hudson went trick or treating with Grandpa Rose, while Dan, the kids, and I moved around the neighborhood at a much faster trick or treating pace. Hudson had a death grip on his bucket all night and couldn't wait to knock on the next door in sight.
This is my nephew KAYLEB dressed up like a NERD for Halloween.
After we had taken a couple pictures of him, Hudson decided to join in and went right over and started copying each pose. To Funny!
Ahhhhh, time to check out the loot. With Dan standing in the wings ready to collect his Halloween "Daddy Tax".

That costume turned out awsome! You did a great job! I wish I was creative enough to do that kind of thing. I couldn't even make up Indiana JOnes, I bought it! Seriously!?

Cute costumes. I thought the head in a jar was very clever, and your witch was the cutest ever! My kids totally traded candy that looked similar to this.
